Are you struggling with late winter indoor training motivation?
This morning I signed up for Stage 5 of the Tour of Watopia with the intent of doing a semi-structured work out. I got to the top of Epic KOM and as I came down the other side, I lost all training motivation to continue the ride. If you’re like me and some of my athletes, you may be struggling to stay motivated during this time. That’s why we’ve put together some tips to help you stay engaged and energized. Plus, we want to hear from you – how do you stay motivated during the late winter indoor training period?
It’s that time of year again – the end of winter and the beginning of spring. The weather is still cold and unpredictable, and many of us are mentally challenged to maintain training motivation with our indoor training routines. But fear not, there are ways to stay motivated and engaged even during these tough times.
One option is to talk to your coach about how you’re feeling. They can provide recommendations or change the types of workouts you’re doing to help mix things up. Sometimes, it’s simply a matter of shifting focus from one discipline to another, such as cycling to running.
Another way to combat boredom is to change up your routine. This could involve trying new types of sessions that are still aligned with your goals, or switching up the venue for your workouts. Maybe you can move to a different room, train at a teammate’s house, or join a virtual training group.
Consider joining a new group, either in person or virtually, to connect with like-minded athletes. Power2Tri athletes are always welcome to join our weekly workout on Zwift at https://www.zwift.com/events/tag/power2tri.
Visualization techniques can also help keep you motivated. Imagine yourself crossing the finish line at your next race or achieving a personal best in a particular workout. By visualizing success, you can stay inspired and energized.
Remember, the late season indoor training period can be challenging, but it’s an important time to lay the foundation for a successful season ahead. By setting specific goals, mixing up your routine, using visualization techniques, and rewarding yourself, you can stay motivated and focused on your training goals. Keep up the hard work and you’ll be ready to hit the ground running when the weather finally breaks!
